Sanskrit

Sanskrit has played a major role in shaping all Indian languages. Not a single Indian language has developed without the influence of Sanskrit. As a vast repository of knowledge, Sanskrit has an important role in preserving Indian heritage. In many fields, Sanskrit forms the foundation of modern science as well. Such a significant language must be loved, preserved, and widely promoted. This responsibility rests upon students of all fields across India. With this sense of responsibility in mind, the college started the Sanskrit Department in 1993. The UG programs include the Common Course and Malayalam as the Complementary Course. The PG program offers M.A. Malayalam as the core course. Scholars such as Dr. P. K. Somarajan, Dr. Santhosh, and Dr. Jayasree have served in the department. Since 2019, Dr. Yamuna T. P. has been serving as the Head of the Department. The department enthusiastically dedicates itself to sharing and spreading knowledge about Indian tradition and culture.

We introduce the works of many Sanskrit scholars such as Kalidasa and Bhasa, and connects these classical texts with contemporary thought. By

highlighting human values through literary works, the department aims to nurture a younger generation that upholds cultural awareness and ideals..

Motto

Motto of the department is chosen from Brihadaranyakopanishad " Tamasoma Jyothirgamaya" ( ledme from darkness to light). It's application in education can be brokken down in to several key aspects like spelling ignorance (darkness), seeking knowledge (lights), holistic developments, moral and social responsibility and lifelong learning. The journey from darkness to light is continous.
