Report of the induction programme held on 17/11/2022 The post-graduate department of Mathematics, Sree Narayana College Nattika, in association with IQAC jointly organized an induction programme for the first year B.Sc Mathematics and M.Sc  Mathematics students on 17th November 2022. The topic was ‘A journey into Mathematics’. The programme started at 9.30 am in the seminar hall. Ms Arathy K D, Head of the Department of Mathematics welcomed the gathering. Dr Jaya P S, Principal, Sree Narayana College Nattika delivered the presidential address. The keynote address was given by the resource person Mr Raveesh R Varrier, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, St. Aloysius College, Elthuruth, Thrissur.The felicitations were done by  Dr Sankaran K K, IQAC coordinator and the Head of the Department of Statistics, and our student representative Mr Advaid T M, II year B.Sc Mathematics. Ms. Sreedevi M P, a student of II M.Sc Mathematics proposed the vote of thanks. The resource person explained the applications of mathematics in Google page rank algorithm, whether prediction, cyber security, artificial intelligence, satellite navigation etc. He explained well the strength of mathematics in modern life and  then discussed the contributions of some great mathematicians like Maryam Mirzakhani, Sir Andrew Wiles, Evariste Galois, John Forbes Nash, Sreenivasa Ramanujan etc.  He also listed some millennium prize problems by Clay mathematics institute. Mr Raveesh R Varrier informed the students about various higher education programmes after completing B.Sc and M.Sc Mathematics programmes and some top institutions in India for higher studies in Mathematics. He also explained some carreer opportunities in Mathematics and concluded the technical session by sharing his experience as teaching assistant in IIT, Bombay.
