KIRF
The Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework (KIRF) is a pioneering initiative by the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC), launched on May 3, 2023, to evaluate and rank higher education institutions (HEIs) in Kerala. Modeled on the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), KIRF incorporates state-specific parameters to reflect Kerala’s socio-cultural values, making it India’s first state-level ranking system. It assesses HEIs annually across categories like universities, colleges, engineering, nursing, and teacher education, based on five key parameters: Teaching, Learning, and Resources (TLR), Knowledge Dissemination and Research Excellence (KDRE), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Scientific Temper and Secular Outlook (STSO). Each parameter is divided into sub-categories with assigned weights, and institutions submit data via the KIRF portal (kirf.kshec.org) for transparent evaluation. In 2024, 449 institutions participated, with Cochin University of Science and Technology topping universities and University College, Thiruvananthapuram, leading arts and science colleges. KIRF aims to enhance institutional quality, promote healthy competition, and improve national and global rankings while helping students make informed choices. By fostering excellence, transparency, and inclusivity, KIRF sets a transformative precedent for higher education in Kerala and beyo
